Sheila Reid - Director
Sheila has worked on a wide range of projects for the company since 1994 and has a degree in Social Policy and a research degree, as well as many years’ experience of working in a research setting prior to, as well as since, the formation of the company.
In 1987 Sheila joined the Employment Department as a Research Officer, working on projects examining the Youth Training Scheme and its impact on young people, particularly young people who faced specific issues in gaining access to employment (such as young women and young people from minority ethnic communities). Following this, she worked as a Research Officer in the Youth Strategy Team in Wolverhampton Council where she undertook a range of research projects with young people. These focused particularly on issues relating to housing, social services and the development of information.
Subsequent posts involved working as Equal Opportunities Officer for Fife Regional Council, where she was responsible for developing consultation mechanisms for under-represented groups and undertaking research and policy development. In 1993 she moved to the (then) City of Aberdeen District Council as Head of Corporate Support. This post involved providing research support to elected members of the council and to other initiatives. It also involved the development of service standards for council services and the development of business planning.

Reid-Howie Associates has a network of researchers from across Fife and in other areas of Scotland. Some of these researchers have their own companies, while others simply work freelance on a sessional basis. RHA keeps details of the skills, qualifications and areas of expertise of the researchers, and will select those for involvement in a particular project on the basis of these skills. We have a strong commitment to ensuring that only those who are suitably qualified to undertake the tasks required will be involved in any project.
Our pool of researchers helps to expand the areas within which we can work by undertaking, for example:
- Interviewing (with a number of specialist experienced interviewers subcontracted regularly for detailed face to face work).
- Telephone surveys.
- Literature reviews.
- Data input.
- Large scale mailing and other project-related administrative tasks.
We are always keen to talk with potential new researchers. We have a standard application / registration form and are happy to provide further information to anyone who is interested in working with us.
